Damiano Michieletto direct a new production of la "La fille du regiment" in Munich [ From category News ] [ Article date: 2024-12-04 ] [ From city Munchen ] [ Country Germania ]   Following the success of his Aida in 2023, Damiano Michieletto is returning to the Bayerische Staatsoper with a new production of La Fille du Régiment. The French opéra comique in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti on a libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Jean-François Bayard will be on stage in Munich from Sunday 22 December 2024, almost ninety years after its world premiere. The show centers on the search for one`s own identity. «The story moves between two levels – nature and the city. Nature – tells Michieletto – as the symbol of an instinctive and spontaneous world and the city as a world of fine manners and high culture. The performance plays these two opposites off against one another, with extravagant costumes and jolly characters, who right at the end, are finally freed from social labels and can happily assume their own identities». The musical direction of the opera is entrusted to Stefano Montanari. The sets are by Paolo Fantin and the light design is by Alessandro Carletti, both of whom worked with the director on his 2023 Bavarian debut. The costumes are by Agostino Cavalca and the choreographies are by Thomas Wilhelm. The dramaturgy is by Saskia Kruse and Mattia Palma. On stage are soprano Pretty Yende, playing Marie, tenor Xabier Anduaga, playing Tonio, and Dorothea Röschmann as the Marquise de Berkenfield. The famous actress Sunnyi Melles, protagonist of the film Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d`Or at Cannes, plays the role of the Duchesse de Crakentorp. Misha Kiria is Sulpice. Other members of the cast are Martin Snell as Hortensius, Christian Rieger as the corporal, and Dafydd Jones as the peasant. The show is a coproduction of the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, where it will be staged from May 18 to May 27, 2025.
