3956 The 43rd edition of the Rossini Opera Festival will be held in Pesaro from the 9th to the 21st August 2022. The programme includes two new productions (Le Comte Ory and Otello), revivals of La Gazzetta, Il viaggio a Reims given by pupils of the Accademia Rossiniana, seven concerts, the return of Rossinimania and the Gala commemorating Pier Luigi Pizzi’s 40 years at the ROF, totalling 23 productions.

The Festival will be inaugurated on Tuesday 9th August at the Vitrifrigo Arena with Le Comte Ory conducted by Diego Matheuz with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso, staged by Hugo De Ana. The cast is headed by Juan Diego Flórez with Nahuel Di Pierro, Maria Kataeva, Andrzej Filonczyk, Julie Fuchs, Monica Bacelli e Anna-Doris Capitelli. The three repeat performances will be on the 12th, 16th and 19th August.

Next, on the 10th August, at the Teatro Rossini will come the first performance of La Gazzetta, with Carlo Rizzi conducting the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna in a production devised by Marco Carniti, with scenery by Manuela Gasperoni and costumes by Maria Filippi, a show much appreciated at the ROF in 2015. The cast of singers includes Carlo Lepore, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Giorgio Caoduro, Martiniana Antonie, Alejandro Baliñas, Pietro Adaími, Andrea Niño e Pablo Gálvez. Repeat performances will be on the 13th, 15th and 18th August.

We return to the Vitrifrigo Arena on the 11th August for Otello, conducted by Yves Abel, with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso, staged by Rosetta Cucchi, with sets by Tiziano Santi and costumes by Ursula Patzak. The cast includes Sergey Romanovsky, Eleonora Buratto, Evgeny Stavinsky, Dmitry Korchak, Antonino Siragusa, Adriana Di Paola, Julian Henao and Antonio Garés. Repeats on the 14th, 17th and 20th August.

The 34th Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda”, beginning on the 4th July, will close on the 18th July at the Teatro Sperimentale with the usual Final Concert. Furthermore, the pupils will form the cast in performances, on the 13th and 15th August at the Teatro Rossini, of Emilio Sagi’s production of Il viaggio a Reims, rehearsed by Matteo Anselmi, with Daniel Carter conducting the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini.

The busy programme of concerts, including six at the Teatro Rossini, opens with four Concerti lirico-sinfonici [vocal and orchestral concerts]: on the 12th August Lorenzo Passerini will conduct the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini with the bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni; on the 14th August Vitali Alekseenok will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, the soprano Jessica Pratt and the mezzosoprano Varduhi Abrahamyan; on the 17th August Fabrizio Ruggero will conduct the Filarmonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna, with the bass Nahuel Di Pierro; on the 18th August Daniel Smith will conduct the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini, the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso with the tenor Michael Spyres. There will be two Concerti di Belcanto [Bel Canto Concerts]: the singers are Sonia Prina (16th August) and Barbara Frittoli (20th August).

Rossinimania will also come back to the Festival: on the 19th August the Teatro Rossini will see the production of Il sogno dell’orso [The bear’s dream], a musical entertainment devised by Sergio Ragni, involving Matteo Anselmi (actor and director) and the singers Andrea Niño, Valery Makarov and Giorgi Manoshvili. Rubén Sánchez Vieco will accompany at the piano.

The ROF 2022 will close on Sunday 21st August at the Vitrifrigo Arena with Tra rondò e tournedos [From rondos to tournedos], a Gala celebrating the 40 years of Pier Luigi Pizzi at the ROF. The performance, a production devised and staged by Pizzi himself, will be conducted by Diego Matheuz with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso, and the singers will be Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Eleonora Buratto, Maria Laura Iacobellis, Aya Wakizono, Giorgio Caoduro, Nahuel Di Pierro, Dmitry Korchak, Giorgi Manoshvili and Matteo Roma.
