84 pianists have been selected for Maria Canals Barcelona International Music Competition [ From category News ] [ Article date: 2020-01-23 ] [ From city Barcelona ] [ Country Spania ]   84 pianists from 27 different countries, with an average age of 24, 5 years, will take part in the 66th edition of the Maria Canals Barcelona International Music Competition, the most prestigious event of its kind in Spain. An artistic commission under the supervision of Mr Carlos Cebro, Artistic Director of the Competition and President of the Jury, has been in charge of the selection. According to the new rules, pianists between 17 and 28 years old are accepted, and the jury deemed appropriate to accept one 17 year-old contestant. In addition, there will be 9 Spanish contestants, an all-time record. The names of the accepted contestants for the 66th Maria Canals International Music Competition can be found in the following link. This year, 212 young talents applied to participate in the competition. The accepted pianists come from 27 different countries and are aged between 17 and 28. China will be the most represented country followed by Spain, Japan, Russia and Korea. The registered contestants live mainly in Germany, United States and Great Britain. Between March 21st and April 2th Barcelona once again will be at the centre stage of piano practice, bringing together some of the best young pianists from all over the world. The members of our prestigious and international jury, presided over by Carlos Cebro (Uruguay/France), Artistic Director of the Competition, are disclosed at the same time as the accepted contestants, in line with the strict standards set by the Competition. The members of this year`s jury will be: Hung-Kuan Chen (China), Manana Doijashvili (Georgia), Aleksandre Moutouzkine (Russia/United States), Fernando Rossano, (Italy), Mamiko Suda (Japan), Erik T. Tawastsjerna (Finland), Alba Ventura (Spain), Uta Weyand (Germany). No pupil or relative of a member of the jury has been allowed to register for the competition. In addition, the Maria Canals Barcelona International Music Competition calls upon all families with a piano at home who would like to offer their pianos for the young contestants to study and rehearse, at agreed times. It`s a great way to take part in one of the most important cultural events in the city and hear how a professional pianist plays the home piano.
