‘Die Walküre’ - Premiere on 28th January at Opernhaus Düsseldorf

2018 is the year of our new ‘Ring’: following the much-lauded opening with ‘Das Rheingold’ the Deutsche Oper am Rhein now continues its new production of Richard Wagner’s ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’. On Sunday, 28th January ‘Die Walküre’ celebrates its premiere at 5pm at Opernhaus Düsseldorf. This will be followed on 7th April by ‘Siegfried’ and on 27th October by ‘Götterdämmerung’. Direction is by Dietrich W. Hilsdorf, with stage design by Dieter Richter and costumes designed by Renate Schmitzer. General Music Director Axel Kober will perform Wagner’s opus magnum until summer 2019 with both orchestras - the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and the Duisburger Philharmoniker - and different casts of singers in Düsseldorf and Duisburg.

‘Die Walküre’ will be staged in Düsseldorf by Dietrich W. Hilsdorf and Axel Kober together with distinguished guests and Wagner-specialists from the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s own ensemble: Corby Welch and Elisabet Strid are the Wälsung twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, opposite Sami Luttinen as Hunding. Simon Neal and Renée Morloc lead the family of gods as Wotan and Fricka. Linda Watson, who has sung Brünnhilde for the Bayreuth Festival, Los Angeles Opera and the Vienna State Opera, now appears on the Rhine as the famous Valkyrie.
