Assessment of Opera Hedeland The informal atmosphere of Opera Hedeland has tended to draw some of the attention away from the artistic level of the Danish outdoor opera. However, an independent assessment made by Dutch opera expert Guus Mostart now states that Opera Hedeland makes an excellent figure also artistically. Even measured by international standards.
Claus Lynge, artistic director and CEO of Opera Hedeland, is thrilled by the fine evaluation which takes a 360 degree look at the opera and focuses on surroundings, artistic quality, administration and marketing.
“When a capacity like Guus Mostart gives an assessment like this, it is hard not to see it as a clear acknowledgement that we are on to something right. The beauty of the surroundings are not surprisingly being highlighted, but the fact that he also very much emphasizes the artistic quality is even better", says Claus Lynge, who has been in charge of Opera Hedeland since 2003.
Guus Mostart is an internationally recognized expert that has been leading great opera houses in England, Canada and Holland. In his evaluation of the two concerts he has witnessed - Madame Butterfly in 2013 and The Troubadour in 2014, he says that …
“…I consider the artistic quality of a high standard. Both Butterfly and Trovatore were well executed, gave the audience value for money and could easily have graced an international stage."
The assessment also addresses issues related to management and marketing and recommends among other things that the number of concerts is increased and that Opera Hedeland are being more proactive in reaching an international audience.
Claus Lynge is very open to the recommendations.
"More of the things that are being pointed out have already been discussed in the board, and we are now seeking out the possibilities of expanding the number of shows", says Claus Lynge.
No substantial criticism is put forward in the evaluation, but it is recommended expanding the chorus in order to minimize the need for amplification. This matter is also currently being addressed by the crew behind Opera Hedeland.
About the assesment
Two years ago Opera Hedeland contacted Opera Europe presenting a wish for an independent evaluation of the opera.
· Opera Europe chose the internatioinally reknowned expert Guus Mostaart, who has been head of great opera houses in both England, Canada and his home country Holland.
· The assesment is extraordinarily positive. It appears that Opera Hedeland holds a high standard and that the performance could easily have graced an international stage and should be able to attract an international audience. |
